Access to information and expertise concerning EU funding

V-4 Fundraisers Networking Meeting, February 12th - 13th, Prague

The primary goal of the meeting was to facilitate the exchange of experiences among V-4 fundraising practitioners and trainers/consultants. The specific focus was on fundraising from individuals, i.e. advanced methods of recruiting stable, long-term NGO supporters from the broader public.

Almost 30 fundraisers, consultants and trainers from Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Bulgaria came to meet their colleagues, share experiences and ideas and gather inspiration.

There were two main topics discussed: "Fundraising through the Internet" and "How to Make Giving Easy - access to payment mechanisms for recruiting and maintaining supporters".

The Consultants Guild (The training program for Czech and Slovak consultants, a project)

The total grant amount from the CEE Trust program: 70 000 USD

The aim of the CEE Trust "Consultants Guild" program component has been to offer a platform for meetings, education and the exchange of experiences. A website that includes an on-line consultants' database was developed, where it's possible to find consultants who offer their services to non-government organizations. One of the results of the program has been the establishment of the Consultants Guild Civil Association, initiated by the members of the program themselves.

A part of the program was the two-year educational training project for Czech and Slovak consultants, conducted by and under the patronage of the Slovak organization Partners for Democratic Change Slovakia.

Raising support from the public

The Bethlehem Evangelic Deaconry Center

The total amount of support from the program component Increasing Support from Individuals: 2 x 200 000 Kč (6 590 + 6 803 USD)

In the first part of the project, the Bethlehem Center focused its efforts on developing a professional system on how to work with individual donors, and consequently significantly increased their number due in large part to support from the VIA Foundation. Even more important for the Center was that the individual donors, who live in the neighborhood close to the Center, became involved in their activities and in this way also expressed their support for the Center's work.

Photos documenting life in the Center: A client walking with their nurse. Unlike in state institutions, where handicapped people live in an enclosed setting of "institutionalized care," the Bethlehem Center wants their clients to become a part of the community and to interact with the local people. Each client receives individual care.

Duha Movement/ The Rainbow Movement - Friends of the Earth Association

The total amount of support from the program component Increasing Support from Individuals: 2 x 200 000 Kč (6 590 + 6 803 USD)

The long-term strategy of The Rainbow Movement is to build up an extensive base of individual donors. Financial resources raised from individuals provide advocacy organizations like Duha with financial independence, which is a necessary condition for their work. With each new donation, they also gain a dedicated advocate. The VIA Foundation helped them in their efforts with financial support.

Společnost přátel přírody/ The Friends of Nature Society

The total amount of support from the program component Increasing Support from Individuals: 2 x 200 000 Kč (6 590 + 6 803 USD)

With support from the VIA Foundation, The Friends of Nature Society was able to try out a wide range of fund raising techniques that address the individual donor, including a direct mail campaign, direct dialogue, offering tree adoptions or selling stickers in connection with fund raising campaign for the "New Forest" project. Based on these experiences, SPP created a successful fundraising portfolio and, thanks to this, the amount of support they raise from individuals has been gradually increasing.
