In April 2002, the CEE Trust Board of Directors appointed The VIA Foundation as its Regional Partner and allocated 3,300,000 USD to the program in the Czech Republic for the three-year period 2002-2005.

The VIA Foundation invited other leading Czech non-profit organizations, namely The Open Society Fund Prague, The Civil Society Development Foundation, The Partnership Foundation, and The Czech Donors Forum, to become CEE Trust Program implementing partners.

In the Czech Republic, the three objectives set by the CEE Trust were addressed through 6 program areas:

1. Enabling environment

• Creating a favorable environment for NGOs
• Creating a favorable environment for advocacy and public policy

2. Capacity of the nonprofit sector

• Institutional support for selected strategic NGOs
• Development of infrastructure for NGO and civic engagement

3. Sustainability

• Supporting regions
• Expanding resources
