Increasing Support from IndividualsA program component implemented by The VIA FoundationThe program aimed to strengthen the skills of NGOs to build and cultivate a stable base of individual supporters, and thus diversify their fundraising portfolio. Additionally, it helped build the overall capacity and expertise in the field of fundraising, gathered fundraising data, supported model projects and promoted stories of success. The program addressed the objectives on two levels: It provided support to 17 selected NGOs, in order to develop successful models and build know-how concerning the systematic fundraising from individuals in the Czech context. The participants attended 6 two-day workshops (on fundraising planning, fundraising from corporations, self-financing, donors care systems, presentation skills, legal aspects of fundraising, direct dialogue) and 3 seminars (on corporate responsibility, media, fundraising databases). Further technical assistance was provided through small grants to cover costs of expert consultancy on fundraising planning, databases, marketing and the development of self-financing strategies. Following the submission of detailed fundraising plans, 11 grants ranging in amounts from $4,850 to $6,803 were awarded to support their implementation. At the same time, the program contributed to the development of the fundraising capacity of the Czech non-profit sector. Two"How-to" guides (on fundraising and PR) and three publications (Working with Donors, Donors Databases, Evaluation) were translated from English and adapted to the Czech environment. Practical experience and data gathered through project implementation were presented to the broad NGO community through an open seminar and a set of case studies. The program provided a platform for networking and experience sharing on both the national and international level (meeting for fundraisers from the CEE region on advanced giving methods, meetings to coordinate direct dialogue campaigns, etc.). Moreover, through the activities of an informal Fundraisers Club that was initiated by the program participants themselves, Czech fundraisers have formed a mutually supportive group sharing expertise and coordinating joint efforts in issues of mutual interest, such as the push for the establishment of easy-to-give mechanisms in Czech banks.
