Pavel Kašpárek of Úsilné Village Wins 2011 Mayor of the Year Award
On November 23, Pavel Kašpárek from the village of Úsilné was anncounced Winner of Era Mayor of the Year Award. This contest is organized by the Postal Savings Bank (Poštovní spořitelna) and was held for the third year. Pavel Kašpárek obtained CZK 250,000 to the municiapl budget, plus a traditional mayor's gift, a symbol of good municipal leadership.
Mr. Kašpárek has been mayor of Úsilné, a village of 400 residents located in the South Bohemian Region, since 1990. Since then, the technical infrastructure has significantly improved. Citizens also appreciate their mayor for great care of culture.
From June 1 to September 5, any citizens living in villages of 2000 inhabitants or less have the opportunity to nominate their mayor to receive the Era Mayor of the Year Award. Of the total of 222 applications received by the Via Foundation (who administers the Award), five finalits were chosen and visited by the Award's Selection Commitee.
The Mayor of the Year Award Selection Commitee took into account the concrete steps that improved the lives of village inhabitants and selected the winner using the following criteria:
Winner of 2011 Mayor of the Year Award Pavel Kašpárek, Denisa Salátková of PSB and Jiří Bárta, the Via Foundation's Director.
