NewsWe Didn't Miss This Year's Grantmakers East Forum11/10/2011
The Grantmakers East Forum was created in 1992 by a group of European Foundation Centre members active in Central and Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent States. As interest for the group grew, in pace with developments of grant-making in the region, the project resulted in the annual meeting which takes place in a different country each year. This year’s conference in Riga in October the 4th–7th addressed the question of where does traditional grant-making fit in the face of current information and communications that are readily and widely available. Is organized grant-making in support of formal, traditional activists still effective when people are sufficiently self-motivated and informed, or at least connected, to organize and mobilize themselves? GEF 2011 also provided plenty of time for networking, which a member of our ViabilityNet team, Marketa Krausova attempted to use as much as possible. Besides the official program she had a chance to spend a precious time with Vera Dakova, representative of the main donor of the ViabilityNet project, Charles Stuart Mott Foundation.
